Both Saraswathi (SVT) was formed by Sri NV Subramaniam in 1979
and 1987 respectively. Both these organizations have pioneered several
concerts and features to bring out the diverse facets of carnatic music
system by featuring several yesteryear stalwarts and present generation
artists.
Saraswathi had its inception as early as 1979 when there was a dearth
of platforms for Carnatic music. The purpose of Saraswathi has been to
bring out the diverse facets of carnatic system of music as also providing
much needed platforms for both established and aspiring artistes to exhibit
their talents. The organization has featured most yesteryear stalwarts and
present day artistes to effectively project the beauty of carnatic music.
Saraswathi Vaggeyakara Trust was formed in 1987 with the idea of
providing pointed attention on the important contributions of eminent
composers (Vaggeyakaras) and compositions. Besides featuring thematic
events and Jayanthi series of composers, Saraswathi and the Trust released
dedicated souvenirs every year (until 1991) focusing on the works and contribution
of composers. The souvenirs which are available in Music Libraries serve as
valuable reference material for music students and performers even today.
In coordination with other established
organizations, Saraswathi and Saraswathi Vaggeyakara Trust have pioneered
several non-profitable ventures that are free to public, and serve as
useful resources for aspiring and performing musicians. The programs have
always been welcomed by the rasikas, and widely acclaimed by the carnatic
music fraternity and media. |
