THE first thing that strikes you as you listen to V Shankaranarayanan is his voice – strong, assertive, and completely sure of its ascendancy over its audience. At the Ganapathi Sachidananda Hall, Velachery, where he performed under the aegis of the Neelakanta Sivan Cultural Academy, he delivered a performance that was worthy of more than the meagre audience that graced the occasion.
