My initiation to music was at a very young age, and ever since it has remained an integral part of my life for close to two decades. I recollect my childhood days when several musicians of great stature used to visit our home over weekends for discussions and practice sessions. Perhaps, this was one of the reasons that made me appreciate the nuances of Carnatic music, and led me to taking it up seriously.

My father Shri N.V.Subramaniam has been one of the greatest influences in my music career. He is a retd. Southern Railways official and has been involved in the music field by way of organizing programs and lecture demonstrations. Through “Saraswathi” and “Sarawathi Vageeyakara Trust” he has pioneered several initiatives to propagate the cause of Carnatic music.

My formal training in music started at the age of 5 under guru Vaigal Sri Gnanaskandan. He was one of the foremost disciples of Semmengudi Sri Srinivasa Iyer and was the music producer with AIR Chennai. My guru has played an important role in the instilling the Semmangudi pani in me. He adopted novel ways to teach krithis and to keep the interest flowing.

I also had the good fortune of learning under Shri. M.A. Venugopal, who was also a disciple of Semmungudi Srinivasa Iyer. He was instrumental in honing my skills further in the areas of krithi rendering. Currently I take advanced lessons from Prof T.R. Subramaniam. It has been my privilege to have learnt under gurus with such repertoire.

My first public concert was at the age of 9 for Children's Academy in Mylapore. I started performing regularly in the December concerts from the year 1992 and ever since, I have been performing in prestigious and established institutions all over India and other countries as a part of their important festivals and monthly series. I have also been featured regularly in popular T.V channels and AIR.

On the academics side, I hold a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a Management degree. I'm currently employed with a leading bank. Apart from music, my interests include reading business and economics. Being a serious stock trader, I like to follow financial markets. I also enjoy Formula 1 and Cricket.

Like all professionals with dual careers, I continue to do the balancing act giving my best to both. I consider myself lucky to have such good parents, a very supportive wife, lovely kids and understanding family and friends who whole-heardtedly support me in this journey. Ofcourse, I should thank the 'rasikas' who have always been a source of inspiration.
